This time it's war.

1986

Genres:
Sci-Fi, Horror, Action

Starring:
Sigourney Weaver, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen

Summary:
Ripley has made it back to Earth where she is recovering from her ordeal... barely. Plagued by nightmares and justifiable anxiety attacks, she reluctantly agrees to join a mission back to the alien planet from which she barely escaped. After her return to Earth, the alien planet was colonized by a few settlers. Recently, however, contact ceased from the colony, and Coporate Advisor Carter Burke (Reiser) enlists Ripley to travel with a Marine group and AI officer (Henriksen) to check it out.

Intially mocked, Ripley becomes the soul source of salvation for the ill-prepared group of Marines once they arrive on the planet and find the aliens of Ripley's nightmares. Once again, Ripley manages to battle the fearsome killing machines while saving herself and a little girl (apparently an upgrade from the cat in the original).

Summary:
This is one of the few movie sequels that measures up to the original. It's got more blood and guts as I've tried to convey by the above photo, but it's about the same level of horror and suspense. Although the plot is fairly predictable, there are still plenty of spots that will make you jump in your seat. The suspense is wonderfully built, and the persistent attempts of the head coporation to harness the alien as a tool or weapon for humans will make you just adore big business.

Ripley's character is expanded upon a bit mroe here as she becomes more than just a hard-ass warrior stereotype. She's borderline hysterical in the beginning, calmly accepting towards the middle, and maternally bitchy near the end. Her protection of the little girl is interesting, as it parallels her reaction towards the cat in the original. I guess you'll protect whatever company you can get in space with a bunch of salivating, double-jawed aliens.

Point Blank:
Invite your dorky friends over, grab some pizza and beer, and have an Alien party night. If you only get through the first two movies in the series, all the better!

I agree. aliens is superior
