GENRES:
Science Fiction, Young Adult, Dystopia, Action

SUMMARY:

RESPONSE:
Katniss is not a superhero and becomes badly damaged as the story progresses, both physically and mentally.

For a young adult novel, The Mockingjay doesn't shy away from the unattractive side of war.

Another interesting aspect of this novel, particularly for its target young adult audience, the the lack of absolute good or evil. At the end of the 2nd book, the rebels from District 13 appear as saviours to Katniss and the reader hopes for a clear and righteous path. This is far from what actually happens in The Mockingjay. Instead, the reader follows Katniss along a confused path of right and wrong, guilt for inspiring so much death, and confusion over other people's ulterior motives.
