RESPONSE:
I will always love this novel because it finally gave me proof that not all 99-cent books for the Kindle are crap! Even excluding its endearing price, Run was a wonderful book to read. The plot was very fast-paced and action-packed. There were a lot of violent deaths, gruesome resurrections, and as the title suggests, chase scenes. What more can you ask from your zombie sci-fi? Collings writes his action scenes with a deft hand, using metaphor and graphic descriptions to convey a dawning sense of horror to the reader.

Run alternates between John, Fran, the assasins, and a mysterious group who seem to control aspects of John's life. I was honestly clueless as to what was going on until the end of the book. I thought I had it figured out, but the ending wasn't what I'd expected.

{WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW}

{NO SERIOUSLY. MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW. THEY WILL RUIN YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE BOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY READ IT}

Although this novel ranks extremely highly regarding entertainment and readability, there were a few glaring plot holes and inconsistencies that I just couldn't get over. Collings spent so much time building up a great story that these inconsistencies really stuck out at the end. For example, if the androids weren't allowed to kill humans, surely John was smart enough to figure out what this meant when they tried to kill him. Also, the whole purpose of Fran as the saviour of humanity seemed ridiculous. If the technology was advanced enough to create almost identical facsimiles of human beings, then IVF is probably a more practical option than turning the world upside-down to protect one lone woman. Finally, if Fran was so utterly important to the human race, wouldn't she be encouraged (or forced) to bear children as soon as possible in her life?

Regardless of these questionable plot devices, Run is one damn entertaining book. I would have even happily paid full price for it!

POINT BLANK:
Zombie science fiction. Really, can it be any more awesome?
